School action plus and no iep yet - how long do I wait?

So ds in year 1 now. Last year he didn't get his iep until April as He is a school of 420 with one senco who only works three days a week. I was told she works bottom down through the school years so he was at the bottom hence it took till April to get round to him. I was hoping he would have a iep ready for him.

I have applied for statutory as dement this week.

In a way this is good as how better to prove the school are not meeting his needs.

I have been told I have to drive things forward but where is the line? Am I responsible for ensuring he has a iep?

New year, same old shite

Hear, hear 2boys to the New year same shit. Our LA are just gathering info as to whether to assess Ds or not. I applied during the hols so the school would of had the letter waiting when they returned...and funnily enough my Ds has been a lot more relaxed than he usually is when he starts in a new class which makes me wonder if the school are doing a little bit more than usual to support him Hmm. Unfortunately my Ds's school like to keep me in the dark unless I query something.

When did you send of the request letter? How long has your Ds been back at school? Whenever I query anything from the SENCO it always takes between 2-3 weeks before I get anything back. So he doesn't have an IEP yet? If not I would send a letter or email to the SENCO to jog her along a little.

He has been back one week today do I was waiting before I start up where we left off ( ie me complaining to the head and in the school every week it feels).

I think things are a bit better than last year as his new teacher has actually written in his home contact book! She also made sure he had a clear path to get out the gate when other kids where being jostled. Also the ta put his coat for him when I collected him early on Monday for his Ocupational therapy. So she seems to register his not a adverage kid. Gosh do fed up of constantly fighting the bloody system.

It does feel like a constant battle, I know but I agree, you to have to push for any information and action to be taken - good news they have put some things in place and you are being heard. Your SENCo should be doing more and I agree you need to email them and make sure you're being heard and your child's needs are being met.

The 'system' has a lot to answer for Sad
