DLA & Tax credits

My son has been awarded this and I've been told to contact the tax credit people and inform them as we may be entitled to extra money.

I've still not heard from DLA to see what rate ds is on. But it's either middle or high rate care.

yes, ring them. They will back date to your initial claim date too. We only get low rate care and low rate mobility and we get an extra £50 roughly a week (single parent, pt working, two children, one asd)

Thank you smokin. As soon as I know the rate ds is on, I'll contact them.

yes, tell them. how much you get will depends on your income though.

you can now also claim Carers Allowance if you earn under £100/week.

make sure you tell the tax credit people if yoy claim CA as this counts as income - but the reduction in TC will be smaller than the gain in CA Wink

Don't forget to inform housing benefit too, they have a disabled disregard they should use so they dont take any of your extra tax credits and in fact you should receive more housing benefit if you do claim.

Ah I see. I wonder why it depends on your income. Either way it'll benefit ds immensely. I've already ordered him some replacement bedroom furniture that he'd broke in one of his rages!

That doesn't affect me smokin, but thank you anyway.

Sweetteamum, try familyfund too. If you're low income and receive dla you can apply. We got a £450 grant to replace the boys bunkbeds as ds1 was upsetting ds2 when he had a meltdown and had made them unsafe.

Oh thanks. That's great. I'll have a look.
