I have been awarded DLA at Higher Rate for my Autistic son and my Social Worker has advised me to claim Carer's Allowance too - will this affect my DLA?

aaronsmummy - don't forget to let the WFTC people know about the DLA as you're entitled to an extra disability allowance on top.

So far then i have the DLA, have just filled in the form for Carer's, have informed Child Tax Credit (is that the same as WFTC) about the DLA. I don;t work so have no earnings, although my husband is in full-time employment. Is there anymore I need to do?

You should hopefully get an extra allowance in your Tax credits because you have a child qualifying for high rate DLA BUT on the other hand CA income, which you will qualify for, is all classed as taxable earnings on your behalf. So that will be lumped together as part of your family income when your Tax credits are calculated IYSWIM!

Not sure about dla but you can def back claim careres allowance for 3 months.

By the way dont you think its pp that we have to find all of this out for ourselves, and we are not told by hv, paeds etc.

Too right - feel like I am stumbling about in a minefield - it's time consuming enough having to care for ds without having all this paperwork to wade through.

You won't get CA if you're claiming IB though (don't know if you are, just thought I should mention it) - they just give 'underlying entitlement' which effectively means they pay National Insurance credits.

Good luck!

aaronsmummy · 23/06/2006 16:23

Sorry, what is IB? thanks

Incapacity Benefit. I couldn't get CA because I get that and you can't have both.

aaronsmummy · 24/06/2006 19:43

No we don;t get that. Thanks for letting me know.xx
