Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I've just applied to be an IPSEA advice line volunteer.

How cool is that? I saw an ad. They've got adverts for tribunal advocates too (also voluntary) but I'm not sure whether they would want 'proper' people for that Wink

Thanks Grin Hopefully the voluntary status will put most people off.

Hope you are successful - you would be as brilliant there as you are here Smile

I applied to be an advice line volunteer last year and got through to the second stage. Sadly I just couldn't find the time to complete all the modules. Am hoping to try again when my youngest starts school next year.

They do take a lot of people as they need a lot, so if you pass the modules they'll be thrilled to have you!

Best of luck!

Good luck - hope you get it. Their head-office is just up the road from me.

Thanks Smile

I have an official log in, go me!

4 stage process: 1 - complete training modules, then take 200 question assessment 2 - attend 2 day training course in London 3 - start taking calls with monitoring of mentor, followed by 1:1 with a legal advisor 4-6 months of constant monitoring

Quite encouraged that it is fairly rigorous.

ArthurPewty - brilliant Grin

Go for the advocacy thing as well, they're fairly desperate for advocates.

Well your posts on MNSN have always seemed very knowledgeable and helpful to me and I think it is really admirable that you would give up your time to help others in this way. Hopefully with more people like you helping us we can ensure our DCs get what they are entitled to.
Best of luck Smile

That's great. I would love at some point in the future to have time to put something back like that.

inappropriatelyemployed · 04/09/2013 21:16

Good luck. It's a big time commitment, so well done you.

lougle · 04/09/2013 21:35

Thanks again. They are asking for a two three-month commitments each year, covering one time slot of 2-3 hours each week. So 78 hours per year total. Hopefully doable.
