My son has made a friend in his reception class at school and it's their birthdays next week (yes, both on the same day!) This little boy has cerebral palsy. we want to get him a present but i don't want to give him something that isn't of use iyswim. I don't know anything much about cp but from observation, he can't grasp a pencil all that well, walk or crawl. I'm hoping those of you with experience of this could help me out.
thanks

How old is he?what about something with music i.e a walkman/discman.When i was nursing we had a boy in for respite with c.p and the only thing that settled him was having his walkman on,whenever he got upset we could guarantee the tape had run done and needed changing over.
My son has autism and is almost surgically attached to his discman yet hates loud music being played in the house, music seems to be a pacifier to special needs children.

We have a dd with cp and although it isn't as bad as this little boys we still plan presents etc.
here's a couple of ideas for you.

A video / dvd

A tape and book that mum and him can read along to.

Do you know if he's into anything i.e Action man etc.

Or simply just ask his mother - most friends and family of ours ask and we mainly say books as there pretty cheap and it's something to enjoy for mum and child.

Good luck and let us know what u decide
