Diagnosis due on first day of school

My 4yo starts school on Tuesday. We also get told the results of the multiagency team meeting the same day. Feel really tearful and it is all too much. Feel no one is on my side. School are hoping to have one on one support, but nothing definite as his diagnosis isn't there yet. He isn't potty trained and barely speaks. Wondering if he should have gone to a specialised school. Did anyone else feel like this? Worried depression is returning, just want to be alone.

Hi, I don't have any magic words but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and to offer some support. Smile
My son is also 4 and starting at mainstream on Wednesday - I am feeling sick with nerves at the moment.
He is also not potty trained and mostly non-verbal. Luckily we have recently finalised his statement and he will be having one to one support.
As for receiving a diagnosis, for me it was a relief as I had known for ages that he had autism but felt like I could legitimately tell people and start getting/trying to get the support for him that he needs.
Good luck for Tuesday

Oh golden that's hard. Maybe knowing the results will be a starting point, rather than and ending? What a day to get the results, though. Please do be kind to yourself. If you can't face people IRL then we are here. Good luck this week Thanks

I know how you feel. My ds got his diagnosis on day 3 of school. He started school in August and I am still very up and down about it. Sometimes I am feeling positive about how he is doing at school and about having the diagnosis and other times I feel down and dont want to speak to anyone.

Make sure you get all the support you need. I am looking into joining a support group and doing some courses. You should speak to your gp if you are feeling depressed. You need to look after yourself. xx

My son got his diagnosis and had his first day of school. He was fine, had one on one support and got his lunch on the Headmaster. The staff are having ASD training on Monday and have asked OH and me if we want to go. Feeling more positive...

That's good, golden, you sound more positive. Be kind to yourself, you may have downs as well as ups. Sounds as though school are takings swift action and that's great. Fab that he was fine at school. Long may it continue Thanks

That is really good! It sounds like your son is at a great school. So glad to hear he got on well and is getting one to one support.
