Finally referred!

After over a year of great help and support from this board, I have finally got a referral for ds for as,adhd and ocd.
I was sleep deprived (my tooth abscess is another story!) and so taken back I forgot to ask how long we'd wait for an appointment. Does anyone have any idea? We are in North East lincs if that helps.
Also is it best to wait til we have at least seen a paed to apply for dla? Ds is very scared at bedtime and i'm sure he would benefit from a weighted blanket, he also has swallow anxiety so spits on his clothes which wears holes in them so the constant demand for school clothes isn't great as a lp.
Thanks

Glad you got referred. If your ds has problems at school I would apply straight away for dla as a diagnosis is not important but you need someone to collaborate what you are saying.
If school are not very understanding of his needs I would wait until you have a paed report and then send a copy with your dla form.

Hi, good luck with the referral. Took about 5/6 months for us. I applied for DLA before being seen by pead/autism team but I did have a few reports/letters I could provide as back up to the application form.

Thank you so much everyone. School have been crap although ds's teacher has been very supportive. I have been told that now he is goung into y3 and he's just reaching the age 7 mark (sunday!!) they'll be more useful. Seems like i'll be waiting for the dla!

I've applied for DLA. I applied before we saw Camhs (but had apt) His after school club filled in the bit about people who know him and they are writing to GP. School also have a huge behaviour plan in place now. As long as you have documentation to prove he gets support then it's worth applying sooner.

As an aside my DS sleeps on his duvet in a sleeping bag which helps him at night.

I applied for DLA before my son had his actual diagnosis. Just having an IEP in place at the nursery and confirmation he was being seen by SALT was enough for them to see he required additional help.
