i.e. do you think it should be how it affects him at home? obvs I know what the school say about him in class but i've not really witnessed it. What about going to school? (i have to drag him, literally).

try ipsea website for letter role models that you could enhance with information

a new sheme called pivot or pivat has just been implemented in our area and all points on this scale must be documented as to why your chid is needing more support than the average child.

be objective not emotive, be clear about what you want for your child and what he needs.....

says she whois mostlikely going to tribunal this year....good luck xx

essbee · 14/06/2006 22:19

Yes, that's what they're requesting. She wanted me to put some of my thoughts down on papaer in a letter rather than fill in the 2 lines on the form. So do all I need to do is just request it then? Thanks btw!!

Sorry my post crossed chatee, thans for that, why are you going to a tribunal? did the request get turned down and why??

no, dd has a statement that was issued for her starting reception, last year it was maintained(kept the same )but at this years annual review (which dd's named education officer from the lea didn't even attend)everyone agreed that she needs more classroom support-only he doesn't agree.......uuuhhhmmm and is doing everything he can by calling extra meetings with school(which school have has to wait 7 weeks for as that is the earliest he could fit it in)to delay the process,

so please do everything for your child someof these people are just complete (insert your own derogatory comment here)

Try getting in touch with someone from a local charity that specialises in your childs needs as they can usually be a parent partner in any meetings and they know their stuff

essbee · 14/06/2006 22:49

That's crazy!! So have you had some help taken away already?

Oh I will do everything I can to get my ds some help if he can get it. Anoter reason why I want to get this letter right!

Neer heard about the parent partner, that sounds a brillinant idea!

dd will lose some support hours in september (school have funded these but can't afford too anymore)

my parent partner is fantastic, she has a child with similar but a few more problems than my dd and she just won't take any messing from anyone

and of course has been there and done that already...

essbee · 14/06/2006 23:20

That really is bad. I hope you get it sorted soon. I am going to find out about this parent partner thing, it really does sound just the kind of thing I could do with tbh.

I'm trying t get round the letter and I just can't concerntrate. It's a bit mad.

Hey ranting's fine, Dingle. What's happened? Sorry you're feeling mad and sad about it.

Thanks for that Attila, you know I hadn't reallised just how much power us pents can have, I honestly believed it was the school who had the most. I'll have a look at that site now.

I've not written the letter yet, i've been given at extra day! (perhaps it should be me at school) I must write it tonight though. I've got some more forms to fill in for school too about some recent incidents. Just have to get my head in gear and ds (and dd!) in bed. I can hear ds charging around as I type this.. sigh.

Aha! Same site as Socci. It must be the one to thoroughly look at then!! Smile

Finished! That website was really brilliant for providing some ideas for wordings. I have gone for mentioning more than what is required including how hard it is to get my son to school and home life. Having just read it through I actually feel quite upset, almost like i'm being disloyal to him. Weird.

I just hope they do agree to this, having got it all down on paper it's strengthened my view even more about how much he needs extra support.

Thanks all again!

Why dont you make the request yourself as a parent and leave the school out of it. That way you have complete control over the process.

flutterfly · 21/06/2006 20:58

hi having been throught the process and i can tell u that u should just write about ur experience with your son. i was given a little box to write about my daughter but i filled in 4 A4 pages. how can u explain ur child in a few lines? dont worry about writing too much. just sit and write and go with the flow. and put whatever is in it into the report. Ur not being disloyal to ur son your helping him.remember its all about his education and the more info u give the more info they hav to give him the right help.

clairey33 · 23/06/2006 10:50

hello this is my first post but just had to agree about feeling disloyal - I wrote to our LEA requesting a statement last week and afterwards had to go in and give my son a kiss on the head while he was sleeping and say 'sorry'. not that it's not the right thing to do but you just feel like your beautiful (if different) child has been reduced to a list of symptoms and difficulties and their real essence doesn't shine through! incidentally, ACE (Advisory Centre for Education) has good information on statementing and includes specimen letters etc, their website is \link{www.ace-ed.org.uk}, helpline is 0808 800 5793
