i need some help please guys. dd1 is becoming almost uncontrollable. she has adhd and aspergers and her behaviour is awful. she is 8 and is having violent outbursts and attacking people almost constantly. its no longer about living with her, its more about damage limitation and i am rapidly reaching the end of my tether with her.

So sorry to hear you are having bother. I also have an 8 year old DD with ADHD and awaiting re-assessment to determine the 'level' of the ASD they are sure she has.

Your post sounds exactly like what she is/was before medication. I know it's a heated subject, but have you considered it?

she is 10mg ritalin (medikinet) a day. it helps but not enough. today she has been evil.

I know every child is different, but we found the 10mg almost made her worse. We are settled on the 20mg for now, but her team think we'll need to up it again sooner rather than later.
How long has she been taking the medication for? Is this behaviour constant? When did it start/get worse in relation to medication? Is there anything going on just now that could be bothering her?

((hugs)) for you though (sorry I know that's not very MN-y!) It's very difficult isn't it?

i dont know whether they can up it, they did it on her weight. am waiting to get back into paed consultant to find out. only thing that could be bothering her is the lack of routine of the holidays. its not constant no, but she usually has at least one hissy fit a day. today there have been lots. been back on it for a week, she had it previously, then we stopped (due to school) i found some still left in a cupboard last week and have given it a go in case it helped. am totally at the end of my tether

You need to speak to her mental health team and get their advice. There are loads of different types they can give. My DD is very light and thin, so I'd imagine unless your DD is tiny there would still be room for manoeuvre with that type if that's what you decided to do.

You really shouldn't be just giving her medication because you found it in the cupboard though.

the problem is that the mental health team discharged her (they are useless here) and i have a gp appointment on the 22nd aug. i didnt know what else to do, i just put her back on the dose she used to be on. she is 4 stone 10 and tall so not tiny no.
