Ds, 10, 27.5 hr statement has just been assessed for autism and autism traits. He's been waiting 2.5 yrs. he had the tests last week nd me and dh been brought in today to discuss. The report will follow in 3/4 weeks. But basically he is not autistic nor is he on the spectrum. He does have some language problems, memory, understanding, commands etc already diagnosed hyper mobile but still really struggling with pen work. They are referring him to salt and clinical physiologist as neuro problems. He really struggles socially at school.

Feel Totally deflated, didn't actually want the autism label but feel let down as we got no label.

Dh and myself think he borders on PDA - now back to waiting.

What test did you have? My ds had Ados test at age 10 and was not given a dx of ASD - 2 years later he was dx'd as HFA/PDA.

He was observed in school by them and EP, then Ados test last week amongst lots of other tests. The team have Had a meeting, pulled It all together and had verbal results today. Just feel sad.

Have you looked into PDD-NOS?

I ask because my friend has a simaler story to
You and ended up with
That diagnosis

As helpful as a diagnosis is, I do
Think sometimes it becomes 'the focus' (I know it did when my son was in the process) and actually the focus should
Be that they have acknowledged he had issues which hopefully will lead to
The appropriate support

Have a hug though, it's a long hard road xxxx

TBH not although it has been useful having an Asd dx for Dd3 I am now in the process of trying to get individual assessments for her so that when she goes to secondary school I will be able to give them very specific information about what she struggles with.

The Asd umbrella is useful but only when people really understand that every child/person with the dx is different and that they can struggle with a whole range of issues.

I understand why you are fed up but see what happens when he has had the rest of his assessments as the information will all be very valuable.

Good luckSmile

I know - I think i wanted the label so I could explain to people why he's so unique GrinGrin

I'd already put him on the tinsley house vitamins, am emailing them tonight. Wish I drunk, as could kill a nice cool beer !!

Believe me some people will never believe your son is unique even with a dx.

Really considering not telling one else my son has a dx now

Ineedmorepatience · 12/08/2013 20:43

I know what you mean I am glad Dd3 has her dx for that reason and so I can get on with life without constantly thinking has she hasnt she.

I hope you get some results from the TH stuff, many people on here swear by it, there was a long thread about it running for ages but I havent seen it for a while.

I dont drink either but I get what you are saying Smile

I am glad ds has his dx for him. When he is older I think it will help him to understand as well. It's not the magic fix all but I am happier that he has it

coff33pot · 13/08/2013 01:13

From reading your first post one could easily put it all together and say that he has neurological disorder in the form of a social communication disorder :)

DS has this set aside from his AS dx. So yes your son is unique :)

Well feel happier today, I've spoke to Tinsley House and we are off on a road trip Thursday
