Here's my dilemma it's taken me years to get DH to agree to getting a cat. DS use to love cats, my mum and dad had a cat and he was very comfortable with it. Recently he has got really scared of anything even butterflies although I've got him over some fears a little.

Will he get use to the cat and feel happy with it or should I not go ahead. Any experiences?

Thanks PolterGoose I've decided an older cat would be better for DS. I've rung the Cat Protection this morning and they have ties with another cat charity and they will try and find us a suitable cat.

It's good to hear your DS benefits from having a cat. I've always had cats and really like them. I don't work through the school holidays so hopefully we can get a cat quickly so we can settle it.

:)

They are coming to see me this afternoon and think they have the perfect one. Really laid back and friendly. :) I'll let you know how things go.

I did have 5 (put one to sleep today :( ) All rescue cats and yes an older cat would probably suit better.

Tbh though although older as in not kittens each one is so different. A cat will only go to those that it can sense likes cats and will stay at a distance if someone sends the wrong signals! Which should help if DS suddenly has an anxious moment.

Hope you found your dream pet x

Ds is petrified of insects and spiders, but loves our cats (and dogs)

Hello Coff

Haven't made it down to your neck of the wood this year hope you and ds are well. Sorry to hear about you cat, it's always sad when you lose a pet. :(

I'm going to visit the cat this afternoon and we had huge progress today DS saw a black and white cat on the way to the park who ran over for strokes and he stroked the cat and was so pleased we stayed for 5 minutes.

Very happy. Thanks Merlincat and claw2 for your advise.

Can't wait now. :)

How exciting, a new cat!

Ds absolutely adores our cats, especially our older one (13) who doesn't go out much and likes to follow ds from room to room for a cuddle. Ds loves the attention she gives him.

Our younger cat is more an outdoor cat and we only see him when he is hungry!

The vet told me the less colours in a cat, the calmer the temperament and I can see an element of truth in that. We have always had cats, from tabbies to tortoise shells to plain black cats.

The plain one coloured black cats have been the most relaxed, laid back cats.

She's beautiful and tiny! We're picking her up some time next week when her foster carer is back from holiday. :)

Get a Tonkinese, they are the most lovely cats temperament wise, more dog like. Very loving, highly intelligent, playful and dog like and bomb proof! I have had moggies and pedigrees and in my opinion you get far more consistency in temperament with pedigrees. A kitten would be best so it can adapt to your household

I'm picking the cat up tonight soooo excited she had pharyngitis or we would have collected her before. Can't wait. :)
