HELP MY 3 YEAR OLD BITES, HITS AND LASHES OUT ALL THE TIME!

Looking for some advice regarding my 2 year old son. He bites me when I try and put him in his car seat, hits and grabs my face and hair. I am covered in scratches and bite marks. I have raised this problem with his clinical physologist who apparently deals with behaviour problems (although she has no children of her own). What they are saying is because his developmental age is of a much younger child say between 19 and 24 months this is normal for his developmental age which I can understand. The main problem being my 3 year old is over 3ft tall and weighs about 2 1/2 stone. He is also very very strong.

I have tried distraction and diverting his attention elsewhere but nothing seems to work. He never pays attention to a toy or a book longer than a few seconds. He is very hyperactive. I have been told he is too young to be put on medication. I have been asked to ignore the behaviour which I have been trying to do but there is only so much phisical pain you can ignore! They have said he may be doing it for attention but he always gets the attention it's always all about him so I don't understand why he would be doing it for attention. He can slap you on the face when you are reading a book to him or in any situation. It does become worse during transitions where he starts kicking off because he does not want to leave the park, grandparents house etc. I have tried using visual aids with him showing him pictures of what will happen next. This makes him just as angry during transitions as he does understand what is going to happen next without pictures.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

He sounds a lot like my son! I have found that the calmer I can try and remain the less the attacking behaviours last. If I rise to it and raise my voice then he does it twice as hard and for twice as long. That's being said I would also love to hear others advice as its very hard to try and be serene when a small child is essentially attacking you. My boy has ASD and limited speech. Does your child have any kind of diagnosis or speech problems etc? I find it hard that he can't communicate to find the reason he is so angry.

My son has fragile x syndrome where he is delayed in all areas of his develpment including his speech. Some of the symptoms are much like ASD. I try and remain as calm as possible but it's really hard when he bites you I can't help shouting that was naughty!

I agree with you the more you get angry the worse they become it's like he gets scared and he becomes out of control.

My son also can't communicate how he feels either which makes things harder.

I am looking forward to hearing other peoples advice too!!!
