Dodgy DLA tactic??

DS2 was diagnosed with a lifelong medical condition last month. We were very impressed with NHS - the nurses told us to apply for DLA at the first appointment. Knowing it was going to take me a few weeks to fill out the form (having done one for DS3) I rang up and asked for a form to be posted out knowing that way they will backdate it to the date requested.
The woman told me not to worry if it didn't arrive quickly as it could take up to 14 days. I thought that odd as DS3's form had arrived fast. Sure enough 2 weeks came and went and when I rang and chased today they were reluctant to accept I had asked 3 weeks ago or check the phone log. Now I will get another form in 7-10 days but to get it backdated have to write in and explain what happened and they will 'consider' it.
I wonder if this is just a delaying tactic to save 6 weeks money. Thankfully I can prove I made the call.

So be warned if you are ringing up write down the date and time you called and use a phone you can get a log of calls for.

How annoying! maybe it would be better to download and print off the form if they are doing this?

I doubt it, to be honest. The condition must be present for 3 months before dla kicks in, so unless he was symptomatic, it wouldn't make a difference.

Same story here. when i first requested the gorms I was also told it could take 14 days and rang up on the 15th to say I hadn't had it. They apparently had absolutely no records of my first call so my claim was only dated from the second call two weeks later. Hmm I should have gone through my phone records to prove it as well.

Take name of person you talk too. Surname too "yes I'm bob" - "do you have a surname bob?" Lol. Date and time then if they don't backdate make complaint that their staff are incompident. I did this for my tax credits.

Btw you can download the form save as you go then print and post

you can pick up a form from all jobcentres. they stamp it there and then with that days date aswell. might be easier than waiting.
