Asd and allergy

Our son has moderate asd he is 4 he has been struggling with constipation for 2 years due to with holding, I just managed to get him off movicols and he pretty much stopped with holding and he was doing proper poops for the first time last week, then last Friday he did a poo which literally took the skin off his little bottom, and he tried to stop it coming out, I imagine because it was burning him. I put him back on movicols and cleared up his soreness over the weekend using piles ointment prescribed by the gp. I went back to the gp today and demanded an allergy test something he ate must have given him an acid poo, it's happened loads of times before and I think that's why he started holding poos in in the first place as sometimes they burned him. Has anyone else experienced this with their child, it was so awful he was in so much pain, I need to know what's causing it, has anyone ever found an allergy caused acid poos? I need to know its worth going through him having a blood test because I think its going to be really traumatic for him, but I just don't know what else to do, I'm worried something he's eating is reacting with him. I tried cutting out gluten and dairy last year and it didn't make any difference although t was hard to telll as he was with holding so much worse then. If anyone can relate to this I'd be so grateful for your views on this thanks xx

Hi, our son is also 4 and has issues with his poo! He suffers from very frequent bowel movements but we have found that dairy makes it MUCH worse - almost making his poos acidic as you have said. We did get his blood tested for allergies - his sister has quite a few so we thought this may be a possibility, but he came up clear for everything they tested. So we feel he has a dairy intolerance rather than an allergy.
The blood test itself wasn't that bad. They wanted to put some numbing cream on his hand for 30mins before they took the sample but there was no way he was going to leave a plaster on his hand so we opted for a numbing spray instead. We had to restrain him while they took the blood sample but it was over in a couple of mins and a lolly soon helped him stop crying.
Before you go for allergy testing though, I would suggest that you keep a food and poo diary to see if there are any foods/drinks that make things worse.

Oh thanks very much for that I'm glad the blood test isn't that bad and I didn't know they might use a numbing spray. I think I might keep the diary for a couple of weeks and see if a pattern is there before I make the date for the blood test at hospital xx

DS (8) just been referred to Camhs with possible ASD or similar, also taken laxido for years. I have questioned related to allergy - as he has allergies, but been told no.
He also has stools which burn him occassionally. I use sudocrem.
He was tested for Coeliacs - but it was negative.
