Ds (7) really cannot have a conversation, so thought before he goes back to school to see if i can work on it. I found this which i hope will help give me ideas on how to teach him pinterest ASD conversation. Any other ideas more than welcome.

No ideas but thanks for the link and watching with interest. My DS is 8 and can talk at you for ages but try holding a back and forth conversation with him and you'll get no where.

I actually cried to my friend last week that I would LOVE to have a REAL conversation with my child. As he is so so verbal people don't realise he can't do it. Sad

Wow! There is so much on pinterest! I guess we aren't the only ones wanting to work on this with our kids spiralling.

Yes that's what i thought, people must be looking into it. The only time i feel i have a proper conversation with ds is when we are playing a board game, when we discuss options, and how well someone is doing, and he comes up with good ideas. But that is really the only time, otherwise it is looks of random statements, his fav sayings and repeating what you just said (more throwing it back at you). I am now spending time trying to find a board game to interest us both. But there are some good things to use i think.

I hope it works.

Yep same here. We get that with Doctor Who Monopoly. The actual strategizing of the game is too old for him, we usually just set a timer and have a play but it's a nice way to get a back and forth discussion going. Smile

I empathise, the only thing we get reciprocal talk with my son about is word play or ridiculous statements. I would love to just chat with him one day. However, in our case I can't see these strategies working as he actually has reasonable conversation skills, he just has zero interest in conversing :(
