hello all

just got diagnosed as an aspie. A bit of an I'd crisis. I have a lovely daughter who has been diagnosed as asd but her language has taken such an upward slant in the last 6 months that I am convinced she is an aspie. I am 100% aware of the problems she is going to face in the coming years and want to gear myself fully to be able to support her. What books would you recommend?

the Asperkid's Secret Book of Social Rules is very good - written by Jennifer Cook O'Toole who has aspergers herself.

I learnt loads from this book, and it's written in a very readable way too, with warmth and humour. I think I got hold of it after somebody else on here recommended it!

Hi, I'm undiagnosed but my dd (6yo) has an ASD diagnosis and if she is I certainly am as we are two peas in a pod. My consultants don't sub diagnose AS or HFA but we are certainly at that end of the spectrum.

I've started many books but, whilst there has been the odd insight, they just tell me what I already know, or depress me. (or both). Apart from when I can't deal with noise and she is swimming by banding or babbling we tend to react in the same ways and I hope she will benifit from my coping strategies as well as find her own.

The only book I would recommend is called the defiant child (which tells you a little about our personalitiesGrin) And it would only be good if you also have handle defiant behaviour!

You are in a unique position to understand your child and i doubt any book will as many answers as you do. My poor DH now feels left out as we get each other so completely and he is mystified by both of us.
