We are going on holiday soon and I have just thought about the weighted blanket. Dd1 sleeps under if every night and it has made a huge difference to her sleep. She doesn't have a formal diagnosis but I suspect traits of many things! We are flying Ryan air do only have 40kg of baggage for all 4 of us, the weighted blanket at 3kg is obviously a challenge with this.

Has anyone taken a homemade weighted blanket through security and was it ok? Don't want to have it confiscated as it took me ages to make.

I've taken on Eurostar as hand lugage one suitcase with: spare clothes, cleaning bag, alarm clock, steal toe capped boots and a solid block of machined steel ( think big block of cheese size).
Yes, I got pulled to one side, and yes, it was all unwrapped and questioned, but I had a reason, could explain it all, and they let me through.

Although if your worried, could you put something else heavy in hand luggage, and put the blanket in the suitcase?

Have a lovely holiday.

Do you have a DLA letter and/ or something from the hospital about diagnosis? RyanAir have a bit of a reputation for being jobsworth about carseats / buggies etc, so some paperwork supporting it being disability-related might keep it out of the hold. They recommend this

Tbh, I'd also be tempted to bring a leaflet or printout from one of the commercial blanket people, and keep quiet about sewing skills.

if you can fold it & hang it around your shoulders it should be fine, they don't YET restrict the amount of clothes a person wears.
If you are unsure telephone their assistance line in advance & explain what it is & what it does & that it well help reduce anxiety during the flight etc

Thanks everyone, no [pa[erwork as no formal diagnosis. I just worried that they will stop us at security and confiscate it. I could ask my GP for a letter not sure if he will though. Good suggestions though, thanks very much.
