At what point can I say DS has had a diagnosis?

I'm a little confused. DS saw Paediatric Registrar who gave us a report saying she suspected ADHD and mild ASD. We and school had questionnaires to fill in on both of these which we sent back.

At this point, we were told that this does not yet qualify as a diagnosis.

Now we had a letter back saying ADHD questionnaires came back as positive and that DS will be referred to a specialist clinic for advice regarding behavioural management for ADHD. ASD ones were neg from home but positive from school, so there will be an ADOS assessment booked over the summer.

Obviously the ASD results are still hanging in the balance, but does this now constitute a diagnosis of ADHD? or do we have to wait for the clinic?

TIA!

In our authority, they will always get parents into the CDC to talk to them face to face to get any diagnosis. If they are awaiting other assessments, I would have thought they would do it as one meeting. Smile

Sounds like they want to complete the ASD assessment as the diagnosis may be ADHD comorbid with ASD. Comorbid is an awful-sounding word but just means co-existing.

It sounds like you are quite anxious about getting the diagnosis - just wondered why that was ?
