im wondering if anyone has ever got a private dx that hasnt been agreed by Nhs. My ds has private dx of hfa but im sure the Paed although a little unclear as yet is doubtful. i think the main reason for her doubts is that school say there are no major concerns.
ds is on waiting list for cdac.
im pretty sure during a tel conversation with Paed she mentioned something about a 'genuine diagnosis' ecen tbough his autism cut off scores are high.
im going to ask her to clarify but wondered if anyone else had had got a private dx and then struggled with nhs later down the line

I worried about all those things too but my Dd3 never once said she missed her so called "friends" and the one that she wanted to see again we carried on seeing in the holidays for a couple of years.

When I told her we had found her a new school she was very relieved and over the next few weeks she was able to tell us a fee of the reasons why she was unhappy.

Inclusion is a whole school ethos and if you have found a school which understands this then it can only benefit your Ds, with or without an nhs diagnosis. He will be able to be an individual and not forced to fit in a box!

The comm paed we saw told us a dx "would not help ds" Hmm
So I gave up with the NHS and we pursued private therapies which have helped enormously.
It's not been easy. But in the end it's been worth it.
We also moved school.

i really feel that i want the nhs to agree. im also kicking myself a little as when i gave the nhs paed the report she asked me what i wanted to do now i have a diagnosis. i am wondering what my options would have been. i asked for th to carry on and she said thats fine he will go to cdac and have ados. then suddenly after chat with senco the private dx is ungenuine. paed actually used those words.

im glad to hear your dc's havr settled nicely in othet schools and it was right for you.

i am def going to see daphne keen in sept

i will wait for paed report and next app have a good chat with her and then poss ask for GODH refferal to Hfa centre they havr there. if DK agrees with private dx.

You have enough - make it count.

Diagnosis is means to an end. In terms of day to day school life it means sweet FA.

Badvoc · 12/07/2013 18:24

Agree with keeping.
We got a dx.
Made absolutely no difference other than to piss the HT off.

yeh i know but i realky would feel better and i could slam the nhs diagnosis down on the sencos desk with great delight. dont get me wrong if ds doesnt have hfa then i will be over the moon. but i know he does and i wont stop until the nhs agree. is thst wrong?
should i dismiss the nhs and work on what inalready know and fight my ground with that.
do u not get entitled to help with nhs diagnosis?
will it help in future? thx

im thinking about writing to nhs paed and explaining why i think private dx should be given more credit. i will detail all asd traits in ds and point out why i feel it is motbdown to shyness and low self esteem. i will highlight bits from both my private reports and salt report and also from school reports. do u think this is a good idea? shall i just leave it for now and see what happens at next appointment. she has said she is sending me an update report. im sure it willjjust state what she has already told me over the phone. im so annoyed with senco - she has totally made paed change her mind. i need the paed on side.
