Ds1 - lovely news

Hi all :)
As some of you know we have had a very rocky road with ds1 and his sen/sn.
When he started at his current school in year 3 he was working at level 1s across the board and was really quite far behind his peers. It was a very worrying time.
He is now in year 5 and going up to middle school in August.
I have just read his end of school report.
He is now;
4c for maths
4c for reading and
3a for writing
His progress in all subjects has been "outstanding" and "good"
:)
Not bad for a child dx as severely dyslexic 18 months ago and whose year 3 teacher told me that I may "have to accept the bottom sets are where he belongs" (bitter? Me? :))
His spelling still needs work (but it's soooo much better than it was) and I am hopeful that he will continue to improve at high school
So....thanks to all who have helped us on MNSN (there are far too many if you to name!)
Neither me or my son would be where we are today without you x

Armani...I am really sorry you find yourself in this situation.
It is heartbreaking for me as I - and many others in this forum - have been where you are now and I vividly remember the sense of anger and distress.
Sen/sn provision has always been dire. And now, with the changes being brought in by the coalition govt it's going to get a whole lot worse :(
I never went down the SA route for the reasons you mention....it would have been refused. I even regret getting the EP report tbh as it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know and damaged my relationship with the HT.
I decided to spend my time and energy and ££ on other ways to help my son. I did inform that school what we were doing but by this point they thought I was a bit of a loon so just let me get in with it :) they weren't really interested.
There have been many dark moments. Moments when I have doubted and questions my actions, but ultimately we did the right thing for our ds.
I just wish we had done it sooner :(
Your ds is the same sort of age as my ds was when we started to look into these options.
It's not too late.
That's the good news :)
