MMR and autism - interested in MNSN views

This has probably been done before so apologies but I'd really be interested in the views of all you wonderful people.

bluechick's MMR is coming up and I want to better inform myself about this issue. I am well aware that Andrew Wakefield's research was corrupt but were there concerns about the vaccine anyway which prompted his research in the first place?

As part of her chromosome condition, bluechick does have what are being called 'autistic tendencies' (they are very slight) which she is supposed to 'grow out of'. Not my wording - don't mean to offend anyone with the implication that you can simply grow out of autism.

With this in mind I am quite concerned about MMR. All views / advice / links to other research much appreciated.

No vaccine is safe for everyone, though most get tgrough unscathed. Some people are more suceptible to the side effects. Trouble is there is little research or interest in researching who those people might be.

When you do your research do it evenly. That means learn about the diseases and the risks or not of those too. I doubt MN will give you a yay or nay, though ime the discission here is much more respectful and measured.

If you do an advanced search on MMR in MNSN, there are hundreds of posts with lots of different opinions.

This is an incredibly difficult decision to make. I hope you find the balanced research you need.

Because of genetic history of extreme reactions to immunisation, I took the decision not to MMR DC3 until he was 9 (although the extreme reaction was to the whooping cough vaccine, not the MMR). With my eldest two (different genetic history) they are immunised at the correct age. With DC3 I had to take into account family history with the possible impact of any immunisation versus the impact of the actual illness.
