Annual Review - how to play it?

We have ds's AR coming up this week.

School have sent through their proposed new Part 2, to which I've added our parts and expanded on theirs where necessary. Their report was pretty shallow and brief, but basically nothing too contentious there.

So far, so good.

But they haven't said anything about what they're thinking for Part 3 (provision). He's had 1:1 support for the last year, trained by us in ABA. He's doing really well, so we're not asking for full time 1:1 support to continue except at any times he specifically needs it. So, hopefully there won't be too many arguments.

But here's my question: should I tell them in advance what we're proposing? After two years of fighting for statement/tribunal etc I really am sick of playing games, so would like to be open with them, but if they're not giving anything away before the meeting, should we?

Any opinions from those wiser and more experienced than me please?

Is ABA in part 3 and 4 at the moment?

Part 3 currently says that his school TA is trained in ABA (by our supervisor), attends our workshops, and works to ABA targets. But is a 'school' TA, so it's not exactly a funded ABA programme.

Our supervisor says ds doesn't need 1:1 support any more, either ABA trained or not. What we're asking for is that the class teacher and any TA that is allocated to help at any specific times required (eg playtime to help with social interaction), works to a behaviour-management plan that we draft and agree with school.

Part 4 just names his current mainstream school.

Well it's probably reasonable for you not to give anything away before the meeting if they haven't. Did you have to do to tribunal to get the current arrangement? You will know how your LEA behaves and responds to things. When my dd had ABA in her statement (via tribunal) the annual reviews were horrible and you could cut the atmosphere with a knife.

lottieandmia · 01/07/2013 17:32

What you are asking for sounds more than reasonable btw.

Yes I think you're right. They've given nothing away so sensible we don't either. We appealed but they settled before the tribunal itself. Yep, our request is pretty reasonable isn't it, but when has that ever made any difference? Wink

Ah I see, yes I know what you mean! Our LEA pulled some real stunts in our time haha. Good luck - I hope it goes well.

Hope yours goes well. I have got DD's first review next week. I am panicking already just found out there will be 8 of them to 2 of us!! Has your school provided you with what they want to change on the statement. All I have is a report with view's from members of staff on how she is doing regards to parts in the statement. We have been complaining to the school all year that they are not providing all the support that is on the statement but they say not enough time now she is as high school to do and fit in all curriculum. We have requested for her ti be dis applied from MFL to make time.
