Applying for assessment

If I want to make an application for SA is it at this point I need to provide all my evidence with the application.
Should I be getting a ed psych report done first. Is there anything else I should do. I'm not looking forward to starting it but I have no choice.
Briefly and as I've already mentioned on here so sorry if your having to read this again. I have a private report that states dd should be getting 1:1 support his main difficulties are communication and interaction difficulties and lacking social skills and norms put simply. I have also had some objective tests done.
School say they cannot provide any 1:1 support as they don't have the staff and no one in the school gets 1:1.
I don't think they are taking it seriously despite the reports I have handed them and been through with them. They are drawing up an IEP now at least.

I'm trying to be patient and not kick up a fuss and try and give them time to do something but what if that time nevers comes.

So what do I need to provide to the LA in terms of evidence other than what I already have. Should I wait until my ds is seen by CDAC before I proceed

You don't need all the evidence. Your report should be enough for the basic part where you write to request it.

What you WILL need is a copy of the SEN COP and to pull the relevant wording such as 'complex needs' and 'not making adequate progress' and 'probably needs a statement' etc.

You can send additional information at any time. I wouldn't order in any further independent assessments until you know whether you will need to appeal a refusal to assess.

I wouldn't wait for the school. They have already stated they will not do what has been recommended and whilst there are rare schools that really do try, yours isn't one of them, otherwise they'd be doing it already.

When is the CDAC? Depending on when it is, it can run consecutively iyswim, though 'some' have a too close relationship with their LAs that can affect dx/outcome.

Thanks Star. We are on the list for CDAC but I am waiting to hear more with regards to that. Ds is now violent on a daily basis so gp has written to Paed to request that he is seen more urgently as now he is a risk to himself and others. Maybe I should wait and see what happens from that.. I think either way I will get a private ed phsy at some point. I just wasn't sure on if I needed to do it to apply for SA. My ds had a private dx of hfa.

You WILL need a private EP report. It's just that you want it as close to your final statement as possible, so firstly you need to know at what point you will be going to tribunal (if you are).

If you get the EP assessment too early you will have to pay again closer to the time. The request for a SA is not the best time, unless you can afford many reports.

Ok I thought as much I was unsure of timescales etc. thanks again.

Def can't afford any reports already spent £1200 getting ds assessed. Will wait until the right time

So basically with the request to SA I just need to get my wording as right as possible and send in my reports that I have to date. I had a salt report but its not very good and I have written to salt to clarify my concerns. I'm going to wait for her reply and then see Paed again and then I'm going for it. Unleash the hell! Not looking forward to the fight tbh

It's not so important what you say tbh, just that you register your determination and start to show that you want some accountability.

A SA request means that the LA has basically ask the school what they think but also what they are doing. This often has the effect of making the school DO something, which is where you start.

Once they are DOING something, that something can be evaluated in terms of it's fit for your child and the impact that it makes. Often the evidence will be very poor but that isn't a reason to refuse SA, and can actually be a reason to grant it.

It's a marathon and it starts informally, getting more formal and serious as you progress. The early stuff is pretty easy (though it can feel difficult because it is that stage where you get the mock hurt feelings from those who are supposed to be working with your child, and hear the stories about worse children with less and bollocks about funding etc etc.)

I have written a letter to school to senco and teacher i have higjlighted everything we discussed using bullet points including that they cant offer 1:1 and that they said no child gets 1:1 at that school. i have also asked them to clarify if they intend to follow any of the recommendations as oer private reports and if so can they confirm which ones. i also requested a copy of my ds school file including file held by senco.
just been to see our nhs paed today, she told me school said there are no problems only that ds doesnt like change sometimes. i think its time to get him out they wont even admit there is a problem let alone help him
