No they dont formally diagnose. They might give you an indication of what they think, but the formal diagnosis comes from the dev paed

My daughter was seen by a clinical psychologist couple of times and also by someone in social clinic (I forget the proper name).

Hello,

I think clinical psychologists can diagnose too. Here's a link from the national autistic society explaining a bit more:

www.autism.org.uk/about-autism/all-about-diagnosis/diagnosis-the-process-for-children/professionals-in-autism.aspx

When my son saw the SALT she asked me questions about his communication, but also more general things like what his sleeping and eating are like. She then played with DS, doing things like getting him to help her put together a Mr Potato head, where she had two of each piece and he had to choose and tell her which one to use e.g. the red hat or the blue hat. She also held up items and asked questions e.g. 'which one do you use when it rains' when holding an umbrella and a cat. It was quite a fun appointment for DS, although I think the SALT found it frustrating that he wouldn't sit still/focus for long.

The clinical psychologist also asked lots of questions about his development, his sleep, his eating, toilet training (well, lack of toilet training), how he plays etc. She observed him playing and talked to him.

90 mins is the length of time our multi-disciplinary assessment is going to take, so perhaps that's what you're having. Our assessment includes SALT, clinical psychologist and developmental paediatrician, plus the report from the community paed who initially referred him.

Good luck!
