DS had Sports Day today. He loves it and always gives it his all but, and I can say this cos I'm his mum, he's a bit crap at running - he sort of galumphs along.

Anyway they do all the races with people of similar ability in their year group and DS did really well. Then came the long distance race - they can opt into that one - and DS was determined to do it. He set off with the others and was pretty much last by the first corner but he kept trotting on. He was lapped by the lad that won. When the bell went to let him know he had one lap to go the entire Year 6 class leapt to their feet and started chanting his name in that lovely positive way kids do and every parent cheered him over the line. The lad that won waited on the finish line to high 5 DS as he finished.

I was then stopped by a dad who told me my DS had 'great stickability'

I am a bit proud.

Lovely lovely lovely story!

What a lovely school and what a fab boy you've raised.

StarlightMcKenzie · 25/06/2013 23:08

What a wonderful story.

No wonder you are proud. I'm proud too, of your ds, of the boy who won and of the school, and if this isn't too soppy, of you for that wonderful little lad didn't raise himself, and you didn't have to share that story.

A pearl of an event. Smile

Thanks people.

The school isn't a bed of roses but their year 6 children are amazing. I think it helps that there is a child in Year 6 with severe special needs and they've been together since nursery so they have that bit more understanding than his current year group or the year above...

The lad that won has been with DS since nursery and his mum is fab. The boy was involved in a massive incident with DS a while ago - he wound DS up on purpose and DS lashed out. The first thing the mu did was hug me and then tore a strip off her son for the winding up. There was another boy involved and his mum went for me verbally in the playground and now blanks me at all times......

I am very proud of DS. He could so easily have given up when he got lapped!

If you've the energy, an email to the school staff/governers/PTA would be a lovely thing to remind people how right they have it and to keep on getting it right.

streakybacon · 26/06/2013 11:52

Ah, that's lovely. Well done, little sock Smile.

moondog - I've already put a note in his home school book but I think an email is a good idea... It'll make a change from the ones I normally send! :)

Oh I had cried while reading this like any mum I know how it is sometimes. I think you got a great school and children there must be fab to have done what they did. Well done to him as well it just shows he got the will and can do anything he sets his mind on. You must be so proud and you should be.

babiki · 26/06/2013 13:15

Lovely, made me sob... After all the horror stories..

And now we're back from karate - he had a grading last weekend and we've got the results.

DS now has a red belt with a yellow tag. We're having a good week!
