blue badge rage

Me, FIL and DS3 went to pick up DS1 and DS2 from school today. DS2 has a blue badge so FIL parked on double yellows as there were no other spaces near enough for DS2 to walk. We sat and waited for a few mins as we were a bit early but we put the blue badge on the dashboard anyway as I wasn't sure if we were meant to or not. Then a man drove up, wound down his window and started shouting about how we shouldn't be parking there. FIL said "I'm picking up my handicapped grandson from school" and the man said "well that's no excuse" and drove off.

DS2 has had a blue badge for 3 years and we've had looks but this is the first time someone has shouted.

PS was it ok to sit and wait for 5 mins before picking up DS2? Normally I would get out and stand by the door but FIL will comment loudly about mums smoking by the school gate and various other things he disapproves of if we stand there too long so I thought it best to leave it until the last minute!

Ok to wait as long as you're not causing an obstruction

Not ok to use the word "handicapped"

Thanks rosie. It's taken years to get FIL to understand that DS2 is disabled. Stopping him from using the word "handicapped" is still a working progress. Problem is, DH's cousin has learning disabilities and her mum uses the term "handicapped". FIL says she must be right as she has more experience at being mum to a child with SN than I do Hmm
