IEPs or 'pupil profiles'? confused....

Hi, my DS's (8yo AS) school doesn't do IEPs, they do what they call 'Pupil Profiles' instead. Does anyone know whether this is going to make it harder when applying for a statement? Even filling out the DLA form, they ask about IEPs, not pupil profiles. I'm confused why they would opt not to do it, unless it is just easier for them. Confused as to whether this is going to be a problem for us. I wondered if anyone else had encountered 'pupil profiles' and whether they might prove to be less (or more?) helpful in the statementing process?

I do not feel it is appropriate for me to post an email that was circulated by the Head of Inclusion in a London Borough to all schools regarding IEPs, but there is government guidance to move away from IEPs for high incidence pupils.

Ok changed my mind and I am going to post the government guidance, since I think it is not restricted information.

Government guidance which is still current states that with regard to planning and monitoring provision for individual pupils with SEN
?Schools do not need to write Individual Education Plans for children with SEN where they have a policy of planning, target setting and recording of progress for all pupils as part of personalised learning that:
? identifies learning targets for individual pupils with SEN
? plans additional or different provision from the differentiated curriculum offered to all pupils
? reviews provision and records progress in the light of individual pupil outcomes ?

I thought IEPs were merely considered best practise?

Setting targets for all dc, giving (and recording) extra help for those who need it, and monitoring all pupils' achievement; that's IEPs for everyone.

So just give parents a printout of their dc-with-SEN's data, 'IEP 30.6.13, review due on or before 30.9.13' handwritten on the top. Job done.

Or don't bother, give in, stick with muzzy thinking and poor disclosure.
