Hi,
Whilst I was at salt with my ds today I spoke to his lovely salt about my dd nearly 2. As my dd is non verbal she advised me to try using Makaton whilst also referring my dd.
The salt has emailed me some info sheets but can anyone please give me some advice as to where I can get information on Makaton and how to learn it. Sorry please excuse my ignorance with this it is completely new to me.
Thanks for reading

Have just completed a MAKATON course today :) DD is just two. Our SALT told us about a local course about 6 weeks ago and it was all day today and last Thursday. Going to a course was soooooo much better then any info sheets I could look at. Speak to your SALT about local courses or have a look on the Makaton website to find out where one is local to you. Ours was free as SALT arranged it.

and don't forget 'something special'.

DC and I have learnt makaton easier that way.

Something special is great, but it's easier to work on the signs yourself if you can find a makaton course. The beginner course overs a lot of concepts over 2 days and is very intensive - it does give you a lot of confidence.

I use makaton at work. I'm sure I have the books somewhere - basic makaton books 1 and 2. I no longer use them as I know those signs and use it daily. I'll have a look for them and if I find them I'll send them to you.

Also second Something special.

And, if you have an iPad and about £70 to spare, MyChoicePad is the official Makaton app. It's not as good as the courses, though - on the lite version, there's the two main signs for food, and it shows them as the same, when they're not.

This DVD worked wonders for me and DS1 when we started out with Makaton, best of luck!

At that age - We first started with Singing hands DVD. Took about 18 months. latter attended free local courses.

MyChoicePad is expensive plus the add-on cost extra...

You only need to start with five signs. Mr tumble is also great!

Also highly recommend baby babble DVDs

I have found the singing hands and Dave benson Philips DVDs great, as is something special. We had to pay for Makaton course that our salt sent us on, and I was annoyed to find with the first one, that I knew all the signs they covered.
