Hi I've just had my sons parents meeting at nursery. He gets 15 hours a week funded due to a speech delay. He is 32 months old and nursery have just done an in depth assessment on him and he is quite delayed in all areas. Most of them by a year or more and a few of them by about 8 months. This was something I had an idea about myself so it didn't come as a shock. They have said that when he moves up to the next room in September they can start bringing in outside agencies to support and help him.
Has anyone got any idea what agencies they might be and has anyone been through this themselves?

Tia

They could mean speech and language therapists, an educational psychologist, occupational therapist etc depending on his areas of need. My dd is older than your ds and has had involvement from all three. Nursery sound excellent and very supportive.

It is. It's fantastic, couldn't fault it one bit, he settled in straight away, has developed good relationships with staff there and loves going. I understand what speech and language do, but what do the others do? Nursery are trying to get him help as soon as possible so he has a better chance when he goes to school.

OT can assess motor skills, visual perception, and provide nursery with recommendations and/ or therapy programmes. They can also assess if any specialist equipment is needed.
EP can assess through games, observations etc and determine any educational strengths or weaknesses your son might have. They can also provide nursery with recommendations.
Both can also advise and recommend if a statement would be beneficial for when your son starts school.

Thank you for replying, understand a bit more now. Can they do these assessments even if he is non verbal (which he is at the minute, apart from babbling)
