Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Very worried about school meeting. Would appreciate tips/advice.

My daughter's review meeting is coming up this week. She is 5yo, has a dx of HFA, and only has a few weeks left of P.1.

She used to attend a special language unit nursery. When she started school, she still received some support from the nursery: a speech and language therapist visiting her at school one afternoon a week via the nursery's 'outreach service'. This help is only available in Primary one, so she has only two sessions left.

Anyway, the review meeting is to discuss dd's progress and plans for p.2.

I've already completed a very thorough form about coping strategies, and a profile of dd, strengths/weaknesses etc, and this has been put in her file and shown to whoever will be her teacher next year,

My dd is bright, sociable, and happy at school. TBH, she has no specific 'extra needs' within school, but can struggle socially at times - but this is always solved quickly.

So why am i freaking out about my dd no longer receiving her weekly SALT?

Through her time at nursery, she received intensive support.

This year at school, she's been getting some support.

Next year will be the first time she won't have anything in place. But they've assured me that if she regresses, we will look into other options.

What kind of questions/comments should i make at the meeting? I'm starting to panic.

In attendance will be:
Salt from the nursery
Current teacher
HT
Depute Head

Many thanks.

Thanks ZZZZ, i'll be writing those down. Great idea to split it up into categories.

Will review meetings still be in place then despite SALT no longer visiting DD.

If so, should they be at least yearly?

I have a feeling the depute might say there's no need for reviews so long as dd continues doing well. Two parents meetings per year will be enough.

If the Scottish system is the same as the English (I know it's not always in Education) , then yes. If she has an IEP, then it gets to be reviewed. The soon to be replaced which could change everything Code of Practice says "at least twice a year" but many schools do their IEPs termly, so 3 times a year.
I would certainly ask the SaLT for advice for any tips or strategies or even programmes of work that would benefit your dd, and then I would ask the school how these are going to be implemented. I would also ask the SaLT what happens once those next targets are reached. If they do outreach from a Nursery for a year, then I presume they will have this with all the children that move on, so there presumably will be a system in place of either handing over to community SaLT or not, in which case you need to see if someone needs to refer your dd now, as SaLT waiting lists can be very long. Of course, it may be that she feels she doesn't need any further SaLT, which would be great Smile
