Dd underperforming at school

Dd (autism, Ld and speech and language issues) is in reception. full time 1:1 and on the whole doing ok-ish. she made good progress over the last year.

We have AR on Monday and the main issue for us is that Dd can do a lot of things (e.g. with regards to numeracy and literacy) but she will not do them at school. so school think she us not able to do them. but the skills are there. I know it. her new IEP will look the same as the old IEP in many ways which is frustrating because it is holding her back further.

we run a P/T aba programme at home and i am pretty sure motivation at school is the issue. school is not open to having the tutors or supervisors in.

I am a bit at loss how to go about this big discrepancy in skills Dd demonstrates in different settings.

anybody any idea what we could do?

I have no idea how you overcome this problem but I do know it is common.

Dd3 has never shown the same skills at school as she does at home but on the other hand cant/wont do school stuff at home.

I am currently working with a LO who is doing ABA at home. I go to her workshops once a month and am blown away by what she can do at home. She transfers new skills to preschool all the time but her skills at home are still far superior.

I really think it is about confidence, children with Asd are often only ever completely relaxed at home.

Dd is very quiet and shy at school. so confidence is probably an issue too.

Yes, Dd3 is often described by teachers as quiet and lacking in confidence at school Sad

Not the child we see!!!Grin
