NHS agree to look at private diagnosis

We eventually had to get a private diagnosis to help my Ds who is in secondary school now. We have applied for a statutory assessment which is being done. We now have confirmation that the new Developmental disorder team will look at the diagnosis to see if they agree because the school refuse to accept a private Dx, even though the consultants also work in the NHS. My Ds is still finding school so difficult.
What do you think of this and also will my Ds have to go through full assessment again?

DS1 was diagnosed by an indi SALT using DISCO and consultation with DK.

One comm paed refused to accept the diagnosis. After receiving reports she wrote that she was pleased to say that the school CAST questionnaire was negative and that DS1 did not have social communication difficulties and that she was not going to refer him on.

6 months later he saw another comm paed who totally accepted the diagnosis and did not think that it was necessary to refer him on for ADOS.

It depends if DS has already had assessments carried out by those normally making up the multi-disiplinary team (paed, SALT, OT, EP) and whether or not the reports are in agreement with each other.

Yes I did do all of the reports because I wanted to make sure it was the right diagnosis for peace of mind as there is no blood test or scan to confirm ASD. I was just worried about having to put him through all the appointments and tests with NHS again because he is already very stressed with school.

Write to the school and ask them for their reasons in writing on what grounds they do not accept the dx given by Dr X. Ask them if they have any reason to believe that this Dr is not reputable as if so you would like them to support you in a complaint to the BMA.

They should find it quite difficult to reply, particularly if YOU don't mention the private bit, only the name of the Dr.

That's a good idea starlight.
They are just trying to find reasons so they don't have to support him. It's a rubbish school in that way and they sadly can't be bothered to help him. EP agrees there isn't anywhere more suitable and he refuses to move or travel or be HE and is very scared of change so we are stuck with this battle unfortunately. My Ds will not talk to me anymore because he thinks if he tells me things I will take him out of the school Hmm
