A friend on FB shared this... I think it is a whole lot more accurate

I like welcome to Holland...I found it myself years ago, when the world of SN was very new to me. It was literally the first thing I came across by a parent, I didn't know anybody else with a child with an SN and I was still completely reeling from it all. It was the first thing I found that said, actually it's ok to be pissed off, it's ok to feel like this wasn't where you were planning on being, it's ok to take a bit of time to get used to this.

A decade and a bit later, yes welcome to Beirut is probably more accurate - but I wasn't ready for that then. I totally understand that people think it's a bit twee and I think I'd have stabbed any well meaning professional who gave me it, but as a mother reading another mother's point of view, it did actually help me loads at the time.

Just because it does get complained about a lot on here.

Agree with the holland part, but we disagree with the last sentence. We would change the disability in a second and make the child physically not have to struggle to do the simplest tasks ever again. We would never change the child though.

In the early years I would have taken away the autism.

I'm not sure who he would be without it now though. It develops alongside him influencing the direction of his personality and skills.
