Posted in Education, but probably get more response here, so apologies for the double post.

DS1 struggling in state school year 7, thinking of moving for year 8.

He has mild ASD, increasingly anxious. Needs a more nuturing, understanding environment. Going to see More House next week.
I know some parents with kids there so have a very positive feeling about the school.

Really my main concern is about the academics. My son is bright, not sure how bright because at the moment stuck in the top of the middle sets. I am not a snob about academics, education is about so much more. But I do need to make sure that they are set up for brighter kids and there are enough of a peer group for him to interact with. I will be asking that question, but also any more that I should ask??

Any stories / thoughts much appreciated.

Keeping - FS spoke v highly of Frewen but too far away for us.

Hi inappropriatelyemployed - you seem very angry about More House. I have friends with who have very severe ASD and realise that each boy is very different with very different needs. The school obviously has a set idea of which children they can support and as they are private can make that decision.

I am thinking of sending my son there, so don't see the relevance of your posts to my thread.

Inappropriately, if it"s any consolation they took one look at FlyingBoy's paperwork and rejected him. Again very terse and made me feel like crap. Better though than Stanbridge where he did a trial and they said no (fortunately as it turned out) and Frewin College which did the same but I knew it was wrong and I should never have left him there.

I had the priory group fighting for him which made me feel much better and he's done well at his school. Only three more weeks to go and he finishes. Scary!

You will find the right place but I really know how you feel when all anyone finds is negativity. It really pisses me off.

My friend's son, who has ASD and is at More House and doing well, was school refusing previously when placed at a mainstream school. She got a place through the tribunal and also got a very detailed and specific statement, so I really don't think that is likely to have been the reason why they didn't offer a place to your son, Inappropriately.

I'm really pleased you liked them, Dededum. I think there is a chance your son might change his mind when he has spent the day with them on Monday.

And no school is perfect, but it will be so much better than where he is now. He will be safe from bullying for a start and in a nurturing and calm environment.

All the best!

Well have been practicsing listening! Has now fallen out the two friends he has. Whilst bouncing on trampoline suddenly said he wants to move schools and he was scared but wanted to move. His whole demeanour changed, more positive, like a weight had come off his shoulders.

And, me I hardly said a world!

Wow, if by Monday he can walk in voluntarily and with a positive attitude that would be amazing! Lots of bouncing and listening required.

Hi there Dededum
Apologies as this is an old thread! I'm doing some research on More House, with a view to my DS starting there (year 7) in Sept 18. I have sent his paperwork to the school and am waiting to hear back. My little man has mild ASD, he's musical and bright with no behavioural issues. I think he will need a small, nurturing environment for the next stage as things could become more tricky socially for him. Did you end up sending your son to MH and if so does he like it? I'd really appreciate any feedback you may have. Thank you in advance! :)

I am new to the thread and searching for a boarding school for my son, he is 11 Auditory processing Disorder, Sensory PD, Executive Functioning Disorder, Mixed Expressive Receptive Language Disorder. He is bright and very musical but struggling socially in mainstream and is very unhappy.

We live in Spain and I have 2 DD Whom I don’t want to move so am looking into More House. Any advice?
