SEN DPs in action

I got DPs for DSs SLT under threat of judicial review. FOIA requests show I am the only person that my Pathfinder Champion has given DPs too (some 40 odd people are getting DPs for transport but there was always the power to do this so it hardly counts for a pilot project)

Interestingly when it came to AR time, our SLT submitted a report saying he needed double the amount of SLT input as he was struggling. What's the chance of an NHS SLT ever doing that?

Of course, the response was to reject it outright because his provision was 'appropriate'. Again what's the chances they reject their NHS colleagues advice outright?

At the time DS was out of class. Now he is out if school so his provision is looking non-existent rather than appropriate.

Moral of the story - you can get DPs if you threaten to sue us but we won't listen to anything your therapist says.

How much piloting has really gone on?

I think it is a huge disgrace that services are allowed to be withdrawn for HE families. Particularly if it is clearly best that the child is not in school.

I couldn't agree more. I picked up orthotics for my son from our local NHS podiatrist yesterday but I had to o to Gt Ormond St and then Souhampton Univ hospital before the service here was forced to agree they can see children Angry

zzzzz as you know also in your LA.

Your Ds has had SLT yes? With Ds I found that relatively easy to get.
Only service Ds was offered was a social language group but it was miles away and I have no transport and Dd was little then. So in reality impossible to access.
However I assumed that that was because Ds's S&L issues were quite minor and he was finding cooperation hard.

Your Ds obviously had major S&L issues and if a service isn't available to him who is it available to?

NO ONE! It's all indirect programmes delivered under block contracts which incentivise the lowest possible levels of input

ZZZ I feel your pain as DS had physio last week - nothing to do with statementing so NHS physio was lovely, helpful, ordered him expensive new shoes and will see us again in 6 weeks.

Child can't speak in school? No one gives a toss.

I would write to the Chief Exec of your NHS Trust, sending a copy of your letter to your MP, asking why they cannot offer services to a child with significant clinical need, in light of the Bercow report etc.

Where has all the aspiration gone? seems to me perspiration is more likely from the number of complaints and chasing parents have to undertake to get basic services for their children. What a blooming waste of money all this new legislation has turned out to be so far.

inappropriatelyemployed · 08/06/2013 14:52

It's undoubtedly meant to save money but the amount of money wasted in the system is incredible....

OP posts:
2tirednot2fight · 08/06/2013 15:06

Yes wasted money that simply isn't spare so the vulnerable lose services and are exposed to greater inequality.....

2tirednot2fight · 08/06/2013 15:07

Has that foi request re DPs been made to all of the path finding authorities?

inappropriatelyemployed · 08/06/2013 16:14

Response from Surrey re FOI request for info on DPs:

We have considered your request for information. Following a search of our paper and electronic records, we have established that the information you requested is not held by Surrey County Council

What? Are they are a pathfinder? But they don't know what they're piloting?

I have let this one slip a bit but we could do with pulling this together.
