Raspberry blowing

Hi

Ds diagnosed has severe speech and Lang disorder, struggles with social interactions and is sensory seeking. He gets OT and speech therapy and also doing VBA at home eventhough the ped doesn't think it's autism.

For about a year now he consistently does raspberry blowing both at home and in public. At first I really was convinced it was just a little phase and would pass. Tried ignoring it as have been advised but really driving me mad now. I don't think it's an attention thing either. Does anyone know what it could be and why he does it? Does anyone else have this with their kids?

Could it be a tic? Ds did this for a few months, he now has a burp tic.

Isn't a tic what children with Tourette's have?

My son did that for months & got himself into all sorts off trouble as he kept doing it in his teachers & friends faces. Then it was burping, now it's an even worse getting the flem from the back of your throat sound. I've come to realise that this could be a tic as I actually think he can't help it.

My son doesn't have Tourette's, well he doesn't have a dx of TS anyway. He has ASD.

Ds goes through phases, of loud throat clearing, and other tics. Rasberry blowing was an early one. I am never sure if they are tics or stims. Ds (13) has ASD. I think it is not unusual to have tics with ASD but don't really know. They tend to get worse if we try and stop them, but sometimes there really is no choice.

My son doesn't have Tourettes either but is in process of getting ASD dx.
