But I should like to confess....
Community Paed asked school to have dd2 comprehensively assessed to ascertain her strengths and weaknesses across the curriculum. I would really like this too, as I don't feel she has a learning disability but her skills are almost certainly a very odd mix of high/low abilities and I would like to get this profile and work out how dd2 can be helped to learn. A year down the line and this assessment has still not happened (Ed Psych thought assessing a child who achieved level 2b in Y2 SATS was crazy and rejected the referral).
SENCO indicated before Easter Hols this assessment maybe on the cards after all, maybe soon if she continues to make no progress her maths and written output (static NC levels from July to March despite being bright and eminently teachable in lots of ways/under a structured literacy intervention programme since Feb/having TA time in maths). So despite knowing that dd2 can actually write brilliantly if her anxiety is managed and if you catch her 'in the mood' and if you support her to learn the broader concepts involved, and if you can stand a bit of screaming and having paper thrown at you from time to time, and that she can actually learn her x tables quite easily (her rote learning tends to happen quickly and be retained) I have done almost nothing to support her learning at home, in order to let the progress plateau for a bit longer get school to ask to have her assessed.
I am naughty. Aren't I.
