We have our paediatrician appointment!!

Just that really

The school nurse came out to observe ds a few weeks ago and wrote up a report from what she'd seen and the notes I'd written about his history. We had been warned that the paediatrician may reject it and ask for further evidence from SALT, OT etc. but amazingly we've had a letter with an appointment for May 15th. It feels brilliant to have made some progress.

Does anyone know what the initial appointments are like? I don't imagine we'll get a dx straightaway (although the nurse said ds was the dictionary definition of dyspraxia with some clear autistic traits too) but I'm not sure what to expect.

Video! Of course, why didn't I think of that. DS has some (what I think are) very ASD-typical behaviour - flapping, spinning in circles, hitting himself when upset, etc. but I was worried about the dr not witnessing any of this.

Update!

We had the first appointment on Wednesday morning and it was really good. The paediatrician was lovely and we spent an hour going over ds's history right from when he was a baby. I felt a bit of a 'nana in places because I couldn't remember certain details like exactly how old he was when he started to talk, or at what stage he crawled/walked etc. We only got about halfway through the points she wanted to talk about though so we have another appointment on May 31st to talk about his motor skills and coordination problems.

Naturally ds sat silently and perfectly still throughout the whole time and just played with my phone! The moment we were out of the room, he started singing silly songs about bums and then proceeded to miaow and moo all the time we walked to the bus stop! I'm going to keep my camera handy to video all this stuff in case the doctor doesn't believe me.

She mentioned getting OT and SALT involved too and seemed optimistic that we'd have a diagnosis within 6 months. I feel good and like we're getting somewhere!
