hi misdee,

hope all goes well tomorrow for you both and that you may finally be getting somewhere.

we sort of now have a reason or should i say name to put to dylan's disabilities, but we shall have to wait and see.

Try not to build your hopes up about a dx, i did this on many occassions and set myself for a fall.

I'm not saying that will happen, but just in case.

Hope you are all ok, ain't been around too much recently, so i have some catching up to do. Good luck.

Butty.xxx

Good luck today. Hope you find some answers to your doubts.

Good luck misdee.
Just got the date for ds4's review on 28th June.
Hoping for a dx then but doubt we'll get one.

well, dd2 had a griffen test done. her intelligence is thast of a 5yr old (she is 3.5yrs olf). her motor skills are age appropriate, her speech is a problem. they feel her behaviour is due to the family situation, frustation of not being able tp acheive what she wants to and of being a middle child. so really we dont know anything else.

has been suggested that dd2 goes to see a child pshycologist to deal with her behaviour. but that is left entirely to me, i will have to see the gp again to sort that out.

Am unsure of what the nextstep is. do i leave it till she gets t5o nursery, or go for a second opinion?

Sorry it was so inconclusive, how frustrating. Is she being referred to SALT ?

misdee · 09/05/2006 12:01

yes, she is being referred back to SALT and for a hearing test.

now how do i help her with her intelligents, i dont want to push her too hard, but obviously should encourage her.

sorry your no further no Misdee... What did they do in the griffin test??

coppertop · 09/05/2006 12:59

Sorry you haven't been given any real answers yet, misdee.

The intelligence thing is a tricky one. When ds2 was assessed just after his 2nd birthday the Psych said he was at the level of a 4yr-old. He tends to pick things up in his own way rather than being taught so I really just go along with his interests and use them to encourage him in the other areas of his development that he needs help with. He loves sci-fi so we (ie the CDC team too) use that to get him interested in other skills, eg making picture-matching games using Star Wars pictures etc. Otherwise I just let him get on with whatever he's interested in and look out for library books or cheap books about his favourite subjects. He also uses ds1's old toy laptop with letters and numbers games but again only if he wants to.

i just feel so deflated. apparently the pre-school sent a note in saying they no longer have concerns. they havent spoken to me about dd2 since nov where they raised the question of ASD, so tbh i am really upset about their attitude. they told me to get dd2 assessed, but now say no problems. so really i am no closer to knowing why my dd2 is the way she is. my parenting confidence has taken a big dent.

I agree with Socci. Don't start doubting yourself because of this. Bright children are very good at hiding their difficulties. It's only when someone takes the time to dig deeper (as you did) that they can see what's really going on.

FWIW even ds2's lovely pre-school had their doubts about him having ASD at first. He does well in structured activities so it wasn't always easy to see his SN. My guess is that your dd2 is showing less signs of difficulty than last year because she's now more used to the routines and environment.

misdee · 09/05/2006 22:41

so, do i leave it till she starts nursery in sept, or go for 2nd opinion.
