Clothing help needed, dd1 needs new trousers

Dd1 is quite tall for her age (8). I have bought her Boden trousers for the last few years as ther are hard wearing, reasonably trendy (even the word shows how out of fashion I am!) and in the sale are a good price.

However the last couple of seasons they have become a bit too trendy - skinny for jeans/cords etc which don't suit as dd1 can't pull them up (she relies on the elastic aged waist bit rather than undoing buttons/zips as she can't do those)

So, I'm looking for bright colourful (not over the top, but not just blue jeans or black trousers iyswim) trousers with adjustable waist (she is taller than she is fat iyswim) which dd1 will be able to pull up/down on her own.

Any ideas?

Oh, and not joggers. She doesn't like them.

Cargo types are ok, but need to be girly rather than tomboy if possible.

Thanks Flowers

www.gap.eu have such skinny jeans with adjustible waists.

I got some elasticated waist trousers for dd3 in H&M not that long ago, might be worth a look

silverfrog · 23/03/2013 11:26

Next sadly only really have blue jeans/dirgy colours atm.

I did look in H&M a couple of weeks ago, as she had a good lot of trousers from there a few years ago. Again, only blue jeans (didn't have her size).

She is at that tricky age where everything goes on-trend only, and so loads of skinny jeans and really trendy stuff which is either horrible (imo, sorry to anyone who likes it!) or mini-prostitute type.

I was gutted that H&M didn't have any, as their heart knee patch trousers lasted her a good while when she had those.

will have a look at gap, thanks, although my experiences with gap (adult) are that they are very slim fit overall (and I am not Grin). she is on the slim side, but needs a bit of loose-ness as her fine motor skills arent' that great, so trousers end up getting stuck at her (virtually non-existant!) bum, and she goes around with the biggest builder's bum ever...

dd3 has the same issue with getting things over her bum and her fine motor control Grin we're just going to start on some shoulder stability exercises to see if we can work on it

Have the same problem with DD, who at 18, is still in age 12 clothes. She needs the elasticated waist for comfort as she is in a wheelchair all day, and being doubly incontinent, we need trousers that fit over nappies.

Boden are a blardy nuisance as their Mini Boden range (where I used to buy most of DDs trousers from) now only goes up to age 10, and their Johnny B range is all skinny jeans/leggings. As DD is completely immobile and has brittle bones, it is just not possible to get those sort of trousers on her. I refuse to dress her in tracksuit pants all the time tries to throw off my Liverpool roots.

Silverfrog For DD, I find it is just a question of shopping around and grabbing what you can when you can. M & S and La Redoute do cotton type, lightweight trousers (with straight rather than slim legs) in various colours and some of them have the elastic adjusters inside. Would that work for your DD if you bought a slightly bigger size and used the waist adjusters to give them an elasticated waist effect? If she is tall anyway, you may not need to shorten them.

Oh and DS (16) told me off for using the word 'trendy' this morning. He said "no one uses that word any more Mum"!

Hi,
Have you tried la redoute? You mentioned some trousers with heart patches that you bought from H&M, well they have something similar in their sale at the moment.

Have you tried H&M and BHS? I find both shops to be reasonably hard wearing for 8-13yo's clothes, fashionable without being uber-hip or too revealing (though you do have to trawl through a little), adjustable waists, bright skinny jeans without being impossible to get on or take off.

My main gripe now is that DD is too tall for the kids' section in either shop!

vjg13 · 23/03/2013 19:34

Boden have still got that style in the boys trousers. There is a 'lively' camouflage print! Some of the other colours could look ok with a nice top.

Ineedmorepatience · 23/03/2013 19:41

Dd3 has recently had some lovely soft pink jeans with elastic waist from Asda, I bought a black pair aswell because they are so nice. She hasnt worn jeans for years until she had these.

We have had cargos from next before but havent looked for ages.

Good luck Grin

How about leggings? DD is the same taller with a slimmer waist. She normally wears leggings a lot in spring/summer as even if they come up just a slight bit on the short side they look like 3/4 length so are fine. Mind you I'm not sure if we are having any warmer weather this year!
