You could ask for feedback through pm.

salondon · 21/03/2013 10:26

Unless I know who has seen this paed before who do I PM to?

I think I will rephrase my question

I want to get my non-verbal 3.5 yrs old daughter's IQ tested. She has a diagnosis of GDD and ASD is coming soon too. NHS arent doing anything. Which paed can refer me to a IQ test?

You want an educational Psychologist to do that sort of assessment. IQ on its own is hard to measure and not particularly informative, but they would assess your DDs strengths and weaknesses in various areas.

Is your DD in nursery?

salondon · 21/03/2013 10:52

My daughter goes to a private day care. The state EP has seen her and told me nothing I didn't already know.

Could I ask you to recommend an educational Psychologist?

We had a very very thorough assessment (including IQ) done at the Maudsley hospital under Dr Patrick Bolton's clinic. But I am not sure how you get a referral there. The results for us were quite depressing, but I am amazed how accurately they predicted everything, at only 3,

PrinceRogersNelson · 21/03/2013 12:03

I would be very interested in this too. My DD was seen by an Ed Psych a couple of weeks ago in nursery who observed her and nothing else.

I am in East London.

I had such a rude message from the Ed psych on my answerphone I am loath to call her as I may be very rude back Blush

zzzzz - Are you saying, I should call the LEA EP and ask for a recomendation for a private one? Wouldnt that annoy them? Its like saying "Oh your report is a bit rubbish, doesnt tell me anything about my daughter's education needs"

SickOf - Thanks for the recommendation. I can see he isnt listed anywhere for private practice

Actually we didn't see him privately, we just asked th GP to refer us. No idea how tht worked, but it did!

Proff Patrick Bolton is very thorough and so are the staff at his clinic. A GP can refer you and it can be done on NHS funded but you would need proof that what you are receiving within your area is not sufficient or you need a second opinion etc.

If you look on their site some of the fees are listed the test is thorough and very indepth and can take a couple hours dependent on how happy your dc are to participate :)

Dev9aug · 21/03/2013 13:23

It depends on why you want to get her IQ tested really. I know you are doing ABA so the test is probably for funding purposes. Your ABA provider will be able to recommend an EP to carry out the assessment. Unless the assessment carried out by LEA EP was for the purposes of SA, then it would not be very thorough. If you are after a through assessment, then a private EP is your best bit.

A Paed might be able to carry out an IQ test, but they are probably better suited for the purposes of suggesting a diagnosis, if that's what you are after.

Either way feel free to name here for recommendations..Smile

salondon · 21/03/2013 14:16

Thanks again everyone. I am looking for recommendations for someone who has used a paed/EP for their non-verbal child. I have read that non-verbal children can sometimes be wrongly assessed on IQ.

I am after an IQ test, because I want to know where we stand.

coffee - What is the name of Prof Bolton's clinic? I am struggling to find anything on the internet except for the king's college page (And I have emailed him from there)

www.national.slam.nhs.uk/services/camhs/camhs-eatingdisorders/contact-us/

The Michael Rutter Centre is where he is based which is part of the hospital :) tel no. is shown on link and its a good little site. They deal with ocd, eating disorders and autism and related disorder service that I went to. Ask for a secretary called Jackie she is very helpful and informative and will send you in the right direction x

coff33pot · 21/03/2013 18:24

she usually answers the phone btw.

MummytoMog · 21/03/2013 21:33

Prince - we are in Redbridge and the EP who saw DD at nursery (for ten minutes) was a patronising prat. I would dearly love to find an independent EP to assess DD (one who didn't think I was imagining her ability to read, add or her perfect pitch for a start). Not sure I've got a spare grand kicking about for an assessment though.

PrinceRogersNelson · 22/03/2013 11:10

MummytoMog - We must be really close to each other then. If I remember correctly you have a 4 yr old DD? Me too. We should maybe get them together?

My EP didn't even speak to me, didn't feel it necessary apparently.

MummytoMog · 22/03/2013 11:29

DD is three and a half, four in August, play dates very welcome!

DD's nursery teacher told me that she was playing with a particular little girl all day yesterday - she's the little girl I had clocked as also being a bit spectrummy, so it made me laugh (although this little girl is very chatty and sociable too, unlike DD).

Our EP gave me his phone number. You know, in case I need to call him just to talk. Because he knew how difficult it can be when the stupid EP makes you cry with frustration and rage.

PrinceRogersNelson · 22/03/2013 16:43

I have PM'd you!

ilikemysleep · 22/03/2013 17:31

Prince Rogers...TBH I would be very dubious of any IQ test results done on a non-verbal 3 1/2 year old. It is one of those situations that an EP should be reluctant to do one of the standard IQ tests, they rely so heavily on verbal understanding even just for the instructions. Any sensible EP would be assessing a child's functioing at that age through observation and possibly an assessment of play, which might be structured or observational.

ilikemysleep · 22/03/2013 19:03

Sorry, that message was for salondon, not prince rogers.

salondon · 23/03/2013 22:38
