Meeting with HT tomorrow - what should I be asking?

I posted last week about dd1. She was in hospital with Guillain-Barre syndrome and was unable to sit up, walk or really move at all. She has made amazing strides since then and has managed standing, crawling and walking across a room, although she is v unsteady.

So anyway, I have an appointment with the HT in the morning, to discuss getting her back to school after the Easter holidays. She has been v nice so far, but I want to make sure all bases are covered so dd has a good transition back. She has been off since 2 weeks before half term.

So what should I be asking? I am still organising a wheelchair for her, going to ring the red cross to chase one up tomorrow. Mobility-wise I think she'd manage round the classroom as it's quite small, although she will be vulnerable to being knocked over. Things I can think of are toileting needs, play time and p.e. Also hoping to see her class teacher to pick up some work. Am not sure what they will do at school to help her to catch up, she must have missed a fair bit although she is only 5.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated :)

I would be asking for a gradual transition back into school.if your dd has been absent for that length of time she would now be entitled to home tuition provided by your local authority-it kicks in after 15 days absence.

Tiredness will be a key factor and that will lead to accidents, that you as a Parent want to prevent: all the school will be bothered about is their attendance % and your dds education. In my eyes health is a longer term priority and a child can receive lots of opportunities for education, it all doesn't have to take place in a school building.

PM me now if you want more advice before you go ( don't want to put too much info up about this but 'know' first hand)

Thank you chatee for your reply, sorry I missed it this morning! I feel the meeting went quite well, the headteacher does seem to be focused on a gentle transition for dd.

So far the plan is to review her attendance on a daily basis. So if she seems tired we can do a half day, or a full day if we feel she can manage it. There will be a TA to escort her in every morning and someone will take her to the toilet. For now playtimes will be indoor with some friends to keep her company, and we will review weekly. They are going to make sure she is seated away from the main traffic in the classroom, and will speak to the other children about her vulnerability. So all in all at the moment it seems good, just hope it works out in practice!

Have also managed to organise a wheelchair from the red cross which we can collect tomorrow, so that is another thing off the list :)

Thank you again chatee, will def take you up on the offer of a pm if any issues come up :)
