The most amazing family afternoon

Following on from my post the other day about struggling to teach my ds (SPD) to learn to ride his bike (reteaching everytime we go out) this weekend we've been lent a tag-along by a school mum Smile. We've just had the most amazing family afternoon, I just can't desribe how I feel Grin. We went, as a family, around our local forestry commision forest. DD cycled her bike, me on mine and dh towing ds on the tag-along. Ds started off with screaming it was too fast but within minutes was loving it once he realised he just needed to hold on to the handle bars. He was caked head to toe in mud and enjoying it Smile. He was trying to get dh to go faster by the end Smile. To do something like this (something dh and I used to do weekly pre-children) as a family and it not to descend into tears and meltdowns is something that only you lot would understand. I'm totally buzzing Grin. I can't believe we have something to do as a family that all of us love so much and the forest is so close that we can ride from the house to it, the summer is going to be fantastic Grin. Ds is nearly 7 but the tag along had plenty of growth in it for him so we're going to buy one with ds's DLA money.

charlottestandems.weebly.com/ lends tandems and trailer bikes so people can find out what suits their needs. Might be useful for another family?

MareeyaDolores I've allowed myself to dream of picnics today after another ride out for 2 hours [smiles]. I'm looking at the map thinking what can we do on a beautiful summers day? We could go along the coastal bike path with a picnic Smile.

Sounds lovely! We haven't all been out with bikes since ds outgrew the covered trailer. We were considering trying the trailer bike but we'd have to have a bike rack and go somewhere to use it as there's no way I'd get ds up the hill to our house even if I got off and pushed! How big do they go? Ds will be 13 soon, would he be too big for it?

AMumGoingMad · 17/03/2013 21:00

Pixel My ds is not quite 7 and is 118cm. The saddle was at the lowest setting and could be raised by about 4 - 5 inches.
