Hi folks

I wanted to share my good news with you and at the same time thank everyone for all their help, support and encouragement through the process that got us here. We couldn't have done it without you and really appreciate every bit of advice, help and support we have received.

Of course the good news is that we have had it confirmed today that the LEA didn't even quibble over the funding for ds's independent placement and his statement is being reissued today with the independent school named on it.

We were also told that they do not envisage any problems with him qualifying for transport and the internal request has also been done.

Ds is going to thrive at that school - the staff are amazing, they have a special interest in supporting pupils with ASD and the Head teacher totally 'got' ds at first meeting. At his interview the Head talked about how he couldn't understand the primary not seeing his potential and how angry he was about them not protecting him from all the horrendous bullying he's had to suffer. He said their priority will be to rebuild ds's self-esteem and help him see what an amazing boy he is.

I am ever so slightly stunned. Feels like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I've suddenly realised how tense I've been about the whole thing.

I can't wait to tell ds when he comes home from school. He has had a truly horrible couple of weeks, first with yet more bullying and then his TA telling him that secondary was 'closer than he thinks and will be here before he knows it'. Angry Cue hours of sobbing and distress every evening and one very spaced out, exhausted boy, constantly tic-ing, having regular upset stomachs and stress related absences again. Sad

Thank you, yes it is. I can't even begin to describe how relieved I feel. I was just gearing up for bad news as usual and preparing myself to face the inevitable fight and now I've had the wind taken out of my sails. Grin

I am so glad that it has worked out for you and Ds in the end after all you have been through.

A good secondary placement has been the making of my Ds and I am sure it will be for yours too.

Badvoc · 15/03/2013 15:20

So very happy for you x

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 15/03/2013 15:57

That's brilliant! I hope your DS will be as happy as you are and start to actually look forward to secondary. It helped a lot in my house that DS1 loved secondary compared to primary, so the other 2 have always seen the move in a positive light.

coff33pot · 15/03/2013 16:17

This makes BRILLIANT reading!Grin

I am having a slight jig around on your behalf. So pleased for both of you x

Walter4 · 15/03/2013 16:21

So very happy for you, the new school sounds fab, I'm sure you'll have a happy confident little boy back soon :D

moosemama · 15/03/2013 16:21

Thank you.

Ellen, he stopped grumping very briefly and almost smiled when I told him at school pick-up - but it was very short lived.

I'm hoping he will get more into the idea as it gets closer. The school say they want to have him in for a few days to a week in the summer term to get him used to the school and do baseline tests for grouping/setting etc. He will get to meet the other statemented pupils for this September's intake and hopefully he'll feel better about it when he's made a couple of connections, if not actually found a friend.

Oops, didn't refresh the thread before posting, sorry.

Thank you Coff33 and Walter4. Smile

I was having my hair cut (first cut in a looong time) when I got the call and the hairdresser was trying to cut my fringe when I got the news! I will admit to a little jig ... and my mum burst into tears. Grin

aww bless your mum :)

Ask school if they mind him taking photos to make a scrap book of the teachers and his suroundings, then buy some disposable cameras to take on the introduction days in the hols.

DS did this for his new school last summer and it paid dividends with him as he could look at it during the summer right up to the night before.

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 15/03/2013 16:41

DS2 took a load of photos during transition sessions as well. Mostly of the ICT room... Grin

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 15/03/2013 16:43

Coff, can we tempt you to a pint at the Goose and Carrot? A pint of latte if you prefer? Grin

coff33pot · 15/03/2013 16:50

ooooh! get that kettle on! Grin
