Need to find a chacracter from fiction that's a geeky boy...

DS2's school is dressing up for book day in a couple of weeks. He is dressing up as a geek (this is non-negotiable). He will be wearing one of his periodic table t-shirts, trousers and glasses with round black frames.

I would be very grateful if someone could think of a character from children's fiction that he might pass as.

TIA.

Give him a cloak and he can be Harry Potter.

I was wondering about Itchingham Lofte, from the book by Simon Mayo as he liked the story, but it might be too obscure.

They are having group photos taken by theme for the Y6 yearbook, and he is so pleased to have been invited to join a group of boys who will be dressing as geeks... it feels like peer acceptance at last.

Haven't read it, but isn't Diary of a Wimpy Kid about a geeky boy?

ThreeBeeOneGee · 08/03/2013 20:51

I always imagine the boy from Diary of a Wimpy Kid as looking like a stick person, but I think there have been films too, so I'll check it out.

If The Big Bang Theory was based on a book, he could go as Sheldon Cooper...

OOh! Sticky or Reynie from The Mysterious Benedict Society! That's my y6 aspie's favourite book. Sticky has aspergers (but doesn't know it)

He might just have time to read it before the big day :)

periodic table = georges marvellous medicine?

ThreeBeeOneGee · 08/03/2013 21:13

I thought he would love The Mysterious Benedict Society, but he didn't get on with it at all. Too close for comfort, perhaps? That was a year ago though, so we could try again.

My geeky DS said "the protagonist from Little Brother" (a book actually written by a good friend of mine from school, Cory Doctorow). The character's name is Marcus Yallow.

Super obscure, but your description of his outfit fits pretty well.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 08/03/2013 21:16

Thank you, he hasn't read that one yet, so will try to reserve it from the library or buy a copy from Amazon.

Oh my goodness BeeMom my DS1 loves Cory Doctorow! Loved that book, just got him Homeland :).

ThreeBeeOneGee · 08/03/2013 21:23

I'm bidding on a copy of Little Brother on eBay. I think DS2 should appreciate it seeing as he hacked into the school computers in Y2 and changed all their settings. Shock

Thank you for all the ideas; I posted on here because I knew you'd accept the fact that I can't change his outfit but have to work around it! Smile

DS1 before he really 'understood' computers, fiddled with the class computer in reception class and managed to completely lock it, twice! think your DS will enjoy the book! :)

BeeMom · 08/03/2013 21:38

starfish71 if your have access to any type of e-reader or want to read a pdf online, all of Cory Doctorow's books are available as free downloads off his website.

Yeah, Cory and I go way back... we were in many classes together and enjoyed each other's company off school time not that way!

I am not in contact with him any more - i bought Little Brother for my DS when I saw who wrote it, and now he is hooked on Cory's work.

No one, unfortunately, feels quite as excited about my writing...

starfish71 · 08/03/2013 21:40

Ooh thanks Bee. What do you write? (Nosey)

BeeMom · 08/03/2013 21:48

I have done a bit of children's fiction, and have a book going to print (hopefully next month) that is a compilation of a number of different essays I have written around the topic of parenting a child with unique needs. That one will be semi-biographical and touch on a few of the struggles and triumphs we have faced over the last few years.

I'll let MNSN know when it is published in case anyone is curious.
