Penpal Letter

This morning in the post was a letter for DS from one of his school mates.

In the letter were things like, Why did you leave school, do you get to play out with friends, who do you play out with, school is rubbish without you, is it good getting teached at home and do you get a break?

It then went on to say what the class were doing and that again school isnt the same without DS.

Aw, what a nice letter i thought and then i showed it to my mum and she said "What a clever boy knowing all those things to ask DS"

I asked her what did she mean and she said the letter looks like it has been dictated by an adult.

I asked DS who the boy is and DS says he was one of the nice ones who didnt bully him and he plays on our street sometimes.
So, this boy already knows what DS does and that he plays out and also at the end of the letter another boy is mentioned that DS used to play with but that we had to stop because he was picking on him and he says he wants Ds to come back to school and that he misses him, now why would he say that?

The person who has "helped" this boy write the letter obviousley doesnt know much about the playground gossip because this boy was one of the ones hauled before the head because of what he had done to DS.

The learning mentor has included anote saying that if DS wants to write back then to forward it on to her.

i have copied the letter to our private psych to see what he thinks.

Am i being paranoid here?

sounds like your being cautious - but why wouldn't you be - your ds has had a hard time at school so it is natural that you would want to protect him. While it seems plausible that letter could have been prompted by a parent - if they are the parents of a nice boy could it be that they have good /kind intentions and would like to establish a friendship btwn your son and their
Did ds open the letter? Maybe the boy mentioned in the letter who your son had trouble with has learnt something. How old is ds? was he pleased to receive it? if so I wouldn't have thought there was much harm done, after all you presumably aren't going to change the careful choices you have made for you son based on this letter.
good idea to get an opinion from your psych.

psych says, "too little too late" this should have been done 6 months ago.

He says while he thinks the letter has been "supervised" by the teacher that it wont do DS any harm and that its not going to persuade him to go back to school which is what he thinks the letter is designed to do.

He said if DS wants to reply then by all means let him.
