She has made it :) 16 weeks later they hand her a certificate and bid her farewell tomorrow to start her "life"

After her battle she now has her official dx of full blown annorexia thanks to medical staff although not trained in that field believing in her and helping her get the diagnosis and the support she is entitled to. She broke down on the phone when she told me and oh god the dejavu feeling of listening to DS dx in london came flooding back. The relief in her voice was unbelievable. To be finally understood that it was not a drink and drug issue but an eating disorder that had really been their stemming from childhood, anxiety and self esteem. All that she has said all along but people turned a deaf ear and refused her help.

Its an odd feeling again that you dont wish your children to have a dx of any kind but become so desperate and welcome it with open arms when it helps that person learn to understand themselves, have a reason for their behaviours and finally someone tells them it is not all their fault besides just the mother.

She has a place in a womens secure refuge with ongoing support and can stay there for up to 2 years whilst still on a list for supported housing. Has a psychiatrist to help her with her MH issues and body dysmorphia. Finally has funding for 1 to 1 support with eating disorder and a CPN.

She is scared but excited. They have helped her overcome her anxieties, fears and learn to accept what happened to her over the years from child to recent tragic events. I am so proud of her. She had to go through this alone and she did for the first time in her life. She is not coming back here but she says she is not running away from bad times she is walking away to good ones :)

Her forward plan is to do what she wanted to do when she left school and that was study psychology and help other teens. Open day is this week and her only worry is that they reject her due to being older and little qualifications. So guys I am asking you to Honk again for her that someone sees the potential in her that I have seen all along x

I am so glad to be the first to read this and congratulate you both. What a fabulous result to a desperate situation!

You are a great example of a Mother who does not give up on her child.

HONK!

I am so happy to read this, the similarities between your DD and my cousin are startling. The only difference being that your DD has been given so much support and self belief.

I truly wish her every success in the pursuit of her dreams, and being able to forge a career in psychology can only be a good thing. She will have tremendous empathy with her future patients as she will be able to demonstrate that she came out the other side.

Huge ((hugs)) to you Coff33. You never have up, and you have always tried hard to understand her no matter how difficult and uncomfortable the truth may have been. Smile

This brought happy tears to my eyes.

If anyone deserves the chance to go onwards and upwards it's your daughter. I'm also so pleased she's going to recieve ongoing support as she transitions from hospital back into the community. Bitter experience has taught me that this is the step that gets forgotten all too often. She's in with a real chance now.

And as for you - you really do deserve a medal for having your kids backs, and refusing to give up on them, no matter what the system etc throws at you. Mama Bear indeed!

Icedcakeandflower · 04/03/2013 08:54

Oh Coff I'm so very proud of her too and your OP brought tears to my eyes.

But I also remember how desperate things got and your refusal to give up on her behalf, having to battle not only the authorities but her too.

She's done well, but my goodness so have you.

pinkorkid · 04/03/2013 09:28
