We love Devon and have family there. A big thing stopping me from moving is worrying about schools for ds who has ASD and Moderate LD. He is 7.

If you live in/around Exeter or South Devon please tell me what you know about special schools and also about after school clubs/holiday schemes that you access.

Exeter appeals because I like small cities but I really don't know much about it as a place to live/bring up kids.

Ds and his sister would love to closer to the seaside

We've been very happy with Ellen Tinkham in Exeter which takes children form 3-19 with a wide range of disabilities.

Exeter is a lovely city. Easy access to beaches and moors and straight on to the M5 to get anywhere else.

I don't know much about the other Exeter schools though.

We recently went to see Millwater school which is in honiton,so about 30mins from Exeter and really liked it. Exeter is a lovely city, lots to do and you have beaches/woodland/moors/rivers all on your doorstep. Ellen tinkham school in Exeter also have a holiday club (run separately) called Hollow Lane Club. There's another school in Dawlish with asd specialisms but can't remember it's name. And the Claire Milne centre (ceda) run holiday clubs.

Also would say Exeter is a good place to live. Small enough for everything to be within reach but enough of a centre to have reasonable range of facilities.

My Ds is much older (16) and has AS but is in mainstream so I don't know anything from experience about special schools though I have heard good things about Ellen Tinkham.

There is a local group called Parent Carers Voice which might be able to give you more information. I'll have to look for the proper link but will post it tomorrow.

That NoHaudin - that link would be appreciated.

www.devon.gov.uk/sen-specialschoolsindevon.pdf

Has the "official " info from county. Probably doesn't include Torbay area schools tho as that is a different (unitary) authority.

Exeter is nice city, not too big, not too tiny. reasonable bus services and only 10 miles from the sea.

Thanks *UniS - 100% agreed that exeter is lovely place to live - impressive!
