Is this palilalia? Repetition in a whisper.

Hi there.

For the past two weeks, i've noticed my 5yo daughter (diagnosed with HFA) occassionally repeating things in a whisper.

E.g. Just now she asked "What's for dinner?" and then immediately followed this with "what's for dinner?" in a whisper while stimming (flapping her hands).

The most i've noticed it is through imaginative play. She'll make a toy 'speak' and then often repeat what her toy 'says' in a whisper.

I've just done a quick google search and it's suggested it could be palilalia. Is this something i should bring up at dd's next SALT appointment?

Oooh my ds does that. Didn't know it had a NAME.

He also does it with answers I give him sometimes. And he doesn't ALways flap.

But it was beginning to get on my nerves so i put my trust in Google, and Palilalia is what gave me back.

There's loads of different -lalias. Difficult to distinguish between them all.

Good to know it's not just my dd. How long has your son been doing it for? It's a relatively new thing for my daughter, so i'm not sure if it's just a phase or if it'll be an everyday thing.

DD does this, but I just put it down to her echolalia (although she's repeating herself not me). She often 'practices' phrases and words in a whisper, and if she's not sure about something she wants to say, she whispers it too, so I hadn't thought about it any more deeply.

Just like the little kid in The Middle'. Actually, DD is quite like that kid.

Ds does it too, sometimes just speaks out loud but also does the whispering. Glad someone else has mentioned it now
