Will be going armed with reports (in case they havent made it on file, their admin is not the most reliable) from:

SaLT
SENCo (with input from Ed Psych)
OT
3 x questionnaires from her school teachers (Job share)
Profile of issues at home with examples, plus diary.

Not sure what I am expecting other than to be told we will remain on waiting list for ADOS (which may not happen til 2014!). But feeling nervous. Honk for us please....

Thanks ladies. I've had a couple of classic anxiety dreams about this appt. Silly, as it's only a 'review'. But in the endless long months of limbo, there is precious little else to hang on to... You lot are fab & I would be a wreck without you all. More tomorrow....

And I thought it was a long wait from when DS3 was referred in Oct last year for ADOS, till his appointment dates in May this year!

6 months is bad enough, but well over a year? Shock

Dinkysmummy · 25/02/2013 08:41

I hope all goes well for you Thanks

I'm back already (was only a 15 minute review slot). I was impressed at how much she could remember about dd2 and how much we got through in a short space of time.

Ladies, I am so glad I took my 2000 word 'profile of issues at home' because this had not reached dd2's file. The Paed read the document there and then, (while I filled in yet another two questionnaires which I have already filled in twice before ). She was really, really, grateful to be given a full picture and I needn't have worried about treading on her toes with it.

On the basis of my 2000 word profile of dd2, and the report from SaLT and SENCo, she said 'You seem to understand her really well'. She acknowledged that things have been tough at home, and we discussed the fact that she's about to turn 8 years old means we can't play the 'wait and see/immaturity' card any longer. And finally, she said 'I think we have enough for a diagnosis of Autism'.

All this was done with very minimal negative talk in front of dd2, who was playing on her DS but would not wear headphones.

Really positive appointment. I suddenly feel very very calm about it all! (about time!). She apologised for the wait for ADOS, which still 12 months from here. She said it will be good to do an in depth assessment so school can see the context of all her issues. She is not ruling out medication for inattention so we can ring her if inattention at school seems to be a persistent problem.

Amazing how far you can get in a 15 min appt!!! Feeling happy!!!

That's wonderful news, Handywoman. Be kind to yourself if you find you suddenly crash a bit, though. I felt kind of euphoric when DD1's MRI came back abnormal - like I had an 'answer'. Then, when I got home, the reality of it all set in.

Ineedmorepatience · 25/02/2013 14:17

Glad it went well handy Grin

Be kind to yourselfSmile
